Futurism

Farah and I collaborated to create a short story that focuses on storytelling through video. Initially, we began with a broader idea of using a storyboard, but after brainstorming together, we decided that a video format would be more dynamic and engaging. The video incorporates various clips and visuals, with English narration and French subtitles to emphasize language accessibility. For anyone approaching this piece, I would suggest viewing it as an example of how media and language access can be blended to create a narrative. The output is not perfect and the focus should be more about how we brought different pieces together to tell a story.
The song “Futuro” resulted from a week-long dive into the theme of futures. It was an exploration into the possible futures that are centered around the community, justice and the environment. I explored how futures can be built on our histories, our stories, our indigenous and collective knowledge and more importantly by recognizing that it is our right to narrate our own futures.

Dancing emerged as a common thread throughout the week. I was inspired by the speakers and some texts that highlighted dancing as a form of resistance; a way to free oneself and get lost in the chaos that is liberating. It is a theme that became central to this piece because through dancing we can also surface the imaginations of our futures. The music and beat represent both Yela and I - bringing in elements from Colombia and Palestine.

So with this song I invite you to dance with me, and with Yela, and together we can imagine our collective and possible futures.
